New Jersey Senator Raymond Lesniak has said that he will sue the state and ask to have the seventeen year old Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act repealed, in a bid to legalize sports betting.

Lesniak said that New Jersey cannot afford to continue with the ban, as it was losing out vast quantities of money in terms of gambling revenue. Currently, sports betting is only allowed in Atlantic City casinos and Lesniak wants to make it available at other locations, both on and offline.

“Billions of dollars are being bet offshore through the internet or through organized crime, and those are revenues that could be going to New Jersey,” said Senator Lesniak. “People are doing it. They're doing it every day. They're doing it for the NCAA tournament. They're doing for the Superbowl and professional football. But we can't regulate it and run it in the state of New Jersey, and that's just unfair.”
