Event #14 in WSOP 2008 was the 10,000 USD buy in World Championship Seven Card Stud. It was one of the toughest events to date with 158 of the best of poker players in the starting field. It came as a surprise that the unknown Eric Brooks won the event and the bracelet and $415,856.

The 1,000 USD buy in Ladies No Limit Hold’em World Championship (Event #15) is down to the last seven and there are no big names left. Those in the fray with their chip counts are as follows: Svetlana Gromenkova 500,000; Marla Crumprer 421,000; Patty Till 415,000, Anh Le 320,000; Roslyn Quarto 313,000; Christine Priday 262,000 and Debbie Mitchell 196,000.

Snooker legend Steve Davis said in an interview to UKPokerNews that he would be playing in the Main Event at WSOP 2008, which is the $10,000 buy in World Championship No Limit Texas Hold’em Event scheduled to begin on July 3.

Events #9 and #10 ended on Sunday June 8. Event #9 was the No Limit Hold’em Six handed and Event #10 was Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better. Ralph (Rep) Porter won Event #9 and Farzad Rouhani won Event #10.

The marathon Event #2 (1,500 USD No Limit Hold’em) ended yesterday, with Grant Hinkle winning the bracelet and 831,279 USD. He beat James Akenhead, who though bereft of the bracelet did mighty well money wise winning 520,219 USD.

With the WSOP underway there is no action of note anyway else. The entire galaxy of poker celebrities is at the Rio.

On Day 3 of WSOP Event #1, 10,000 USD Pot-Limit Hold'em World Championship, ended with Nenad Medic upstaging Andy Bloch. When the day began Nenad had 1,200,000 chips to Bloch’s 2,115,000. As the table narrowed to the last four Bloch had maintained his lead and distance over his competitors.

On Day 2 of the WSOP 2008 Event #1, the 10,000 USD buy-in World Championship Pot Limit Hold’em, reached its penultimate stage with the final table of nine. Such are the upheavals at poker tables that only four of the top ten contenders of Day 1 made it to the final table. They are Amit Makhija, Nenad Medic, Patrik Antonius and Mike Sowers. The event found a new leader in Andy Bloch, who was the former manager of the MIT Blackjack Team.

The WSOP 2008 is underway with its first event, the 10,000 USD buy-in World Championship Pot Limit Hold’em. This event will be played over three days. The legendary Doyle Brunson did the honors of declaring the games open with his words “Shuffle up and deal!”
