Event #14 in WSOP 2008 was the 10,000 USD buy in World Championship Seven Card Stud. It was one of the toughest events to date with 158 of the best of poker players in the starting field. It came as a surprise that the unknown Eric Brooks won the event and the bracelet and $415,856.
The fierceness of the competition can be gauged from the fact that luminaries like Phil Ivey (winner of 5 bracelets) and Daniel Negreanu (winner of 3 bracelets) failed to make it to the final table. However at the final table was Erik Seidel, winner of 8 bracelets and with WSOP earnings close to the $4 million mark.
However a greater surprise was in store. Brooks donated his entire winnings of $415,856 to the Decision Education Foundation. The foundation improves the lives of young people between the ages of 4 and 18 by teaching them how to make better decisions.
