John “Razor” Phan became the first player to win two bracelets at WSOP 2008. His second bracelet came in Event #40, the 2,500 USD buy in 2-7 Triple Draw. Phan was in the lead in the strong final table of six.
Six came down to three fairly easily but then the going got tough and tense. Luong was the first to go and in the heads up play Phan defeated Uchida. Earlier Phan had won a bracelet in Event #29 the $3,000 buy in No-Limit Hold’em. With the second bracelet Phan cemented his reputation as one of the best tournament players in the world.
This win has catapulted Phan into third place in the WSOP 2008 Player of the Year rankings. Phan is just 7 points behind Jacobo Fernandez, who is leading. It is interesting to note that Fernandez has not yet registered a win at WSOP 2008, but is Number 1 on the leader board on the strength of his 5 cashes.
