Harrah’s, the organizers of World Series of Poker, have announced some important changes for WSOP 2008 even as the tournament has progressed beyond the half way stage. Earlier there were to be three main prizes at WSOP 2008 constituting a sort of Triple Crown.
The $10,000 World Championship No-Limit Texas Hold’em, labeled as the Main Event, has always been the most coveted prize at WSOP. The $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. was to be prize number two. The Player of the Year Prize (POY) was to be the third prize of the Triple Crown. Rankings from the Main Event and the World Championship H.O.R.S.E. would not contribute to POY.
Now Harrah’s have scrapped the independent importance of the World Championship HORSE and its rankings will contribute to deciding POY. The reason for making this change is not known. Thankfully the Main Event has been left out of POY. Otherwise fans would have to wait till the end of the year to know the POY because the Main Event has been extended till November.
