The Latin American Poker Tour Nuevo Vallarta stretch was cancelled over the weekend after only one day of play. The games were interrupted after local gaming officials entered the facilities where the PokerStars-sponsored tournament was being played out and asked all players, dealers and the media to leave.

By that stage of the tournament, 89 out of the original 242 participants were still left in the game and PokerStars said that they would be compensated by being paid out $5000 in prize money (double the $2500 buy in amount). The remaining money was distributed to players as a percentage of their chip count.

A statement issued by PokerStars said: “The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) confirms that it is canceling the poker tournament in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, due to an indefinite suspension served on one of its local partners. The LAPT states it has cooperated fully and in good faith with the requirements outlined by the Mexican government. The LAPT respects and abides by local regulations in each market.”
