There were 512 entrants to the WSOP 2000 main event. Each poker player paid $10,000 to enter the tournament. Chris' made a big mistake which might cost him the title. But that mistake turned out to be the way to get a world championship title. Ferguson had A♠ 9♣, and T.J Cloutier got A♦ Q♣.
Cloutier thought that Ferguson didn't look strong enough with his hand. He moved all-in. Ferguson called. The flop came with 2♥ K♣ 4♥, giving no advantages to either player. The turn brought K♣, so the situation didn't change at all. Cloutier was probably sure of winnig this tournament. The river, however, decided the winner – 9♥ gave Ferguson a pair of nines and the title of 2000 World Champion along with $1,500,000 in prize money.
