The WSOP 2006, like every WSOP Main Event, was a $10,000 No-Limit Texas Hold'em event. There were 8,773 entrants to the main tournament. All events were held at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was the first time a casino other than Binion's Horseshoe hosted the final table.
Final hand of the 2006 WSOP Main Event was played betwwen Paul Wasicka and Jamie Gold. Preflop Paul Wasicka got 10♥10♠ and Jamine Gold had Q♠ 9♣. | Paul Wasicka | | Jamie Gold | | VS |  |
Paul Wasicka raised $1.5 million and Gold called. The flop showed Q♣-8♥-5♥. Wasicka made a bet to find out what is his opponent's strength. But Jamie with the highest pair moved all in. Wasicka hesitate to call - but finally he didn't believe that Gold could have a Queen and made his last final call. The Turn and the River didn't change anything, and Gold emerged as the Champion, taking $12 million.
